About the Project
Art Along the Bow is a new outdoor public art festival presented by The New Gallery (TNG). The project transforms the Bow River Pathway in downtown Calgary into a continuous corridor of artistic encounters, connecting art, nature, and community. The festival features site-responsive artworks, public programming, and community engagement throughout June 2026.
This project is supported by RISE UP Calgary.
Position Overview
The Graphic Designer will be responsible for creating the visual identity and promotional materials for Art Along the Bow. Working closely with the Curator and TNG’s team, the designer will develop design assets that support public engagement, accessibility, and clear wayfinding for audiences along the Bow River Pathway.
This role is ideal for a designer with experience in cultural or community-based projects who enjoys collaborative, process-driven work.
Key Responsibilities
Graphic Design & Visual Identity
- Design festival promotional materials, including posters, flyers, and digital assets.
- Develop bilingual (English / Chinese) graphic materials for print and digital use.work with translator
- Ensure visual consistency across all project materials.
Maps & Wayfinding
- Design printed and digital maps for the outdoor art trail, including artist locations, QR codes, and accessibility information.
- Collaborate with the Curator and TNG team to ensure clear, user-friendly navigation and information design.
Digital & Social Media Content
- Create visual content for social media promotion (Instagram, Facebook, etc.).
- Design graphics for digital advertising and online outreach.
- Support basic digital content creation aligned with the festival’s branding.
Collaboration & Production
- Work closely with the Curator and TNG staff to align visual materials with curatorial content and project timelines.
- Prepare print-ready files and support coordination with printers and vendors.
- Participate in regular check-ins and respond to feedback in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in graphic design, preferably in arts, culture, or community-based projects.
- Ability to design bilingual (English / Chinese) materials or willingness to work with provided translations.
- Strong layout, typography, and visual communication skills.
- Experience preparing files for print and digital platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage deadlines.
Assets (Not Required)
- Experience with wayfinding or map design.
- Familiarity with Calgary’s arts and cultural landscape.
- Experience working with artist-run centres or non-profit organizations.
- Chinese language skills (written and/or spoken) are considered an asset.
Compensation
- $2,000 CAD -$3,000 CAD, inclusive of all design and production-related work.
- Payment schedule to be confirmed with The New Gallery (TNG) staff.
