VOLUNTEERING AT TNG /

Our volunteers are an integral part of the gallery, helping The New Gallery function to its greatest potential. Volunteering with TNG is a great way to support the local arts community, to gain experience working in a gallery setting, and to meet new people.
Additionally, we reward any amount of volunteer time with a free one-year TNG membership.

TNG has many opportunities for you to participate. The hours are flexible and a variety of positions are available. Some volunteer positions are for single events, while others –  such as board or committee positions, or working in the Resource Centre – require a longer-term commitment. We seek volunteers for:

Gallery installs, receptions, rentals, and fundraising events:

Volunteers assist event staff with setting up, and tearing down exhibition and events, serving food and beverages, clearing tables, meeting and greeting guests, supervising artwork and other duties as required.

If you’d like to volunteer on a casual basis and remain in the loop as new opportunities come up, subscribe to TNG’s volunteer list or by emailing Jasmine@TheNewGallery.org

Volunteers or interns seeking a long-term (three months or more) placement at the gallery should send us a copy of their resume and two external references that may be contacted by TNG (not family members or friends). You should also include a brief statement outlining why you wish to volunteer at TNG, what you hope to gain from your volunteer experience, and your availability. We’ll conduct a brief interview to discuss your commitment and interests. Knowing about you and how you can fit with our organization helps us ensure you have the best volunteer experience possible. If we’re a good fit for each other, we’ll work out a convenient schedule together.

We’d be happy to have you join our organization! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at info@TheNewGallery.org

Office administration support:

Volunteer office support opportunities include preparing bulk mail-outs, filing documents, entering data, and other administrative tasks that help keep TNG running smoothly.

Internships:

Undergraduate students from the Alberta College of Art + Design and the University of Calgary’s Fine Art Department can also gain valuable experience while earning credits through internship programs offered by their institutions. We will work with you and your instructor to ensure a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Contact your internship coordinator to discuss a possible placement with us.

Board of Directors:

The role of the Board of Directors is to govern the organization in accordance with the Bylaws and applicable laws, to establish the organization’s direction and monitor its performance. A one-year commitment is required.

Committees:

We encourage interested members to become involved in the Society through one of our standing committees (Programming, Equity, Communications, Fundraising, & Human Resources).
