Repeating Chesterfield – Oscillations and Synthesizers

Cookie Brunel

The New Gallery (TNG) is pleased to present Repeating Chesterfield – Oscillations and Synthesizers, a free online workshop by 2020 Main Space exhibitor, Cookie Brunel.

This public program will be held on Sunday, January 17 at 12PM MST. This free event will be held through Zoom, please register via Eventbrite.

Workshop Description

An educational workshop about electronics and sound for beginners. Participants will be introduced to concepts of electronic synthesis and analog terminology like VCO, VCA, and VCF. Gain a basic understanding of how synthesizers create waveforms using electricity. Learn how waveforms can cross dimensions and alter time and space. Witness the concepts in action with demonstrations of the circuits discussed in the workshop.

Biography

Cookie Brunel uses sculpture, video, and coding to create spaces of alternate reality. These spaces are defined by mutability; of identity, of humour and of space-time. Their theories tell similarities between non-binary gender, electrical waveforms, and carabiners. They are a white settler in Tkaronto who mistrusts canons, walls, and single-state particles. They write in lists of three.

Territorial Acknowledgments

TNG gratefully acknowledges its home on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region, including the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani and Siksika), Métis Nation of Alberta Region III, Stoney Nakoda First Nation (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley), and Tsuu T’ina First Nation. TNG would also like to acknowledge the many other First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have crossed this land for generations.

The online programming was generously funded by the Rozsa Foundation and the Calgary Foundation.
