The New Gallery (TNG) is currently welcoming artists, curators and culture workers to submit proposals for our 2027 - 2028 programming schedule.
TNG is an artist-run centre located in Calgary Chinatown on the traditional
territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta,
which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika,
Piikani, and Kainai First Nations), the Stoney Nakoda (including the
Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations), and the Tsuut’ina First
Nation. The City of Calgary is also home to the historic Northwest Métis
and to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Métis Nation Battle River
Territory, Métis District 5 and Métis District 6. TNG would also like to
acknowledge the many other First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have
crossed this land for generations, as well as Indigenous peoples across
Turtle Island who have stewarded and protected this land for
generations, and who continue to do so today.
TNG’s call accepts
proposals for solo and group exhibitions, curatorial projects, and also
considers these applicants for internally organized group shows. The
call is also open to other types of artistic programming, including but
not limited to residencies, community engagement initiatives, and
publication projects. Proposals of this nature must follow the regular
submissions guidelines, as well as provide a project budget outlining
any additional financial resources required beyond the typical budget
outlined in this call. When considering applying, please note that TNG
is mandated to provide opportunities and venues for artists that foster
social and political creative practices, while engaging and educating
audiences through artist-run culture and contemporary art. Relevance to
this mandate is a primary consideration for the peer jury during their
adjudication process.
Exhibiting artists are offered a fee commensurate with CARFAC’s Fee Schedule under section A.1.1. These rates are updated annually, with 2026 fees projected to be $2,677 for a solo exhibition. TNG is able to budget for travel to Calgary, accommodations during install and one way shipping of the artwork. Details of this budget are determined on a case-by-case basis, but TNG typically is able to spend $4,000.00 - $5,000.00 on each exhibition. We highly recommend applicants to apply for funding to support their projects, and if selected by the jury will receive a letter of confirmation or intent to support their proposals.
