How do you solve a problem? Do you pounce at a puzzle with brute force? Are you slow and steady with strategy? Perhaps you feel nervous or confused when you face a challenge. Perhaps, instead, you feel inspired and mystified. A puzzle puts you into a strange and sublime place, Solving a Problem looks to explore this experience.

Artist Bios/Statements
Emmanuel Ho is an animator and experimental filmmaker based out of Calgary. His current research interests are in the relationship between motion perception and cognition, and in developing a visual language of narrative in interactive mediums.
I use animation as a means of meditation - to explore a subject as I understand it, reflect on the interiority of my experience, and to express that experience through an evolving personal process. My goal is to use motion to elicit sparks of engagement deep in the recesses of the mind, not to overwhelm with a concept or a mood, but to lightly brush the dust off the periphery.

Devin Hyndman (he/him) is a Metis artist from Mohkínsstsisi (Elbow, or Calgary Alberta). Mindfulness plays a big part in the many mediums he practices in, as making art is highly therapeutic for him. He mostly paints and sculpts, particularly miniatures, digitally and physically, but also works in fibre, music composition and filmmaking.
Abstract experimentations in line and point, to realistic painted miniature game pieces, there can be great variety in his output. He gravitates to works that are automatic, and intuitive in nature, to get lost in the process. He tends to overthink things afterwards, but when he’s making art, it brings him comfort, joy and purpose
Curatorial Practices Program
This exhibition comes out of the Curatorial Practices Program, which invited 6 NaAC artists to learn about curating and to curate an exhibition of their own. This program is generously supported by Calgary Arts Development.
